Studio Lights

Greetings,

Welcome to the Cooper studio.
I have a new painting for you to look at today, that came to be in a roundabout sort of way.
I have a ton of paper covered with quick sketches from my painting group.  Sometimes when I get home from the painting group, I look at what I've done and it goes right out to the garbageguys.  Then there are those times when I look at one and say "something can be done with that", whereupon it goes into a massively overloaded file.
Moving/relocating does strange things to you sometimes.  While we were still in Spencer, Iowa, trying to decide what we were going to let the moving company guys take to Jefferson, Iowa, that file came under inspection.  Again I said, "something can be done with that".  When we unpacked (well, started to unpack) the file turned up again.   That's when I decided to DO something with it.
Shouldn't a painter be able to look at something they were inspired to do earlier, and build on it?  I am here to tell you it's not as easy as it sounds.
What I found to be the biggest hindrance was the information gaps.  Most of the sketches in the file are from two minute poses or ten minute poses.  Maybe I should spend more time during ten minute poses on getting the fullest part of the calf muscle right, because that was one bit of info missing that I found particularly annoying.  Right behind that annoyance was the one about the little triangle between the right side knee and arm, where the shirt shows.  I know it's away from the light and therefore shadowed, but HOW dark?  I hadn't gotten that bit of information down on the studio sketch.  Is this where "punt" enters the artist vocabulary?  Yup.
Here's what I've got:

Studio Lights, acrylic painting on an ample 30 x 30 inch canvas.  Signed, and in the portfolio, for you further inspection and enjoyment.

Thanks for stopping by.

Transportation

Greetings,

Welcome to the Cooper studio on a pleasant Iowa morning.  It's a wash-nature kind of morning, just enough of a little rain shower to rinse everything off.

Should I mention that all of that is per our new Jefferson, Iowa location?  And despite the chaos of moving company leftovers, I have been painting!  The first canvas that happened in the new studio, well, I'm not showing.  Something about an adjustment period apparently.  The second is not quite ready to sign, but I like it quite a lot, and it will definitely get that signature in the next few.

One interesting thing about the new studio is the audible proximity to the family room, where the morning news is still on.  Matt Lauer just gave valuable airtime to a discussion of Michelle Obama wearing shorts on their family vacation to the Grand Canyon.  Holy buckets.  EVERYBODY wears shorts to the Grand Canyon.  And wouldn't we all question her sanity if she wore a three piece suit there?  Give the poor woman a break.  Wow, political commentary direct from the Cooper studio, now there's a rarity :)

Hey, I'm so off subject, I almost forgot to add the painting image.  Here we go:

As I think I already said, this is on a 12 x 12 inch canvas.  Give me one more day to contemplate, and then it will hopefully be in the portfolio, ready for the world :)

Out Of The Box

Greetings,

Welcome to the Cooper studio, and I do believe I can legally call it a studio once again.  Monday/Tuesday, said studio moved south 100 miles, so yes, it literally was in a box.  Actually, many boxes.  Today is Wednesday, and some of those boxes are unpacked, but not all.  My goal for today was to get enough unpacking done to allow for an hour of painting.  I forgot to factor in that my hands and arms would be this tired.  I shouldn't have any trouble sleeping tonight---and actually I never do, this night will just be extra!

Studio In A Box (or two, maybe twenty)

Greetings,

Welcome to the Cooper studio.  Count your blessings that you are present in word only :)  Because:  The Cooper house has sold, and part of the deal was a quick closing date.  Dios mio.  Yeah, if you want to put us on your prayer list for a few days, I wouldn't mind!

Do you remember that collection of really great art books I've talked about before?  Or hey, just picture your own!  They have to go in boxes---a full bookshelf is hard (impossible) to pick up and carry.  And I have been blessed with a really large walkin closet just off my studio.  Said closet is full.  To the gills full.  My goal by quitin' time tonight is to have it ALL in boxes, neatly labled, stacked and ready for the moving guys on (gulp) Monday.

When we got quotes from the moving companies, one came with them doing the boxing, the other came with us doing the boxing.  The first option sounds wonderful, but it also means all that stuff you really wanted to throw away and haven't yet, will end up at the new house too.  So we box.  And we edit our stuff.  Our real estate agent called us minimalists.  Ha! I'll bet we can get even more minimalist yet!

This post maybe needs some good get-to-work art!
