Hello!  And happy New Year's eve to you.  It is bloomin' cold in Spencer, Iowa today.  It only seemed fitting to finish up a painting that would make me feel better about that!

I started this painting several days (weeks?!) ago, and it's been biding it's time, leaning against the wall in the studio.  Today's daily paint landed on it, and it includes a signature.  I guess that means it feels done.  Here is a look at it's first image that I uploaded back when.  And then of course, today's image.  Enjoy!

ps.  Yes, it has a name:  'Spread A Quilt On The Grass'

daily paint on the project blog, December 27th, 2007

Good morning!
Welcome to the project blog.  Today's daily paint is still in the tube:) but I want to show you yesterday's daily paint slinging episode. I know, I know, it is excessively sketchy and you can just barely tell where this is going.  But I have the whole day in front of me, so check back later!

ps. I am writing about my excuse for excessive sketchiness on my journal blog today!     http://coopkja.blogspot.com  (December 27th post)

project blog distress, December 18th, 2007

Greetings,

The best I can do for today is assure you that I have been painting!  Oh my gosh, what a corner this painter has painted herself into.  Yup, it needs to be done pretty soon now.  Nope, it's not moving along very smoothly.  We will see what happens tomorrow, maybe magic?:)

ps.  The morning was spent threatening this machine.  Results and bragging rights are here:   http://coopkja.blogspot.com  December 18th entry.  Yeah, someday maybe I will learn how to hyperlink on this blog too:)

daily paint on the project blog, December 14th, 2007

Greetings!
Welcome to the project blog.  Today's daily paint has been an ongoing edit process, in other words, two steps forward, one and one half steps back, and repeat.  It is ready for yet another major change, but I guess I can at least say that I have blocked in my subject!  Let us not talk about how thick the paint is getting on this canvas---do you suppose there is a Guiness Book record for that:) ?  At any rate, three images of the progress or lack thereof (!) :

Ok, back to the easel!  Cooper

daily paint on the project blog, December 13th, 2007

Greetings!
Welcome to daily paint on the project blog.  I have two images for you today!  Yeah, and then I have to take the 16 year old snowboarder to the doctor's office:), so quick upload!

So I think this is the completed 'Boogie Board Instruction'.  It warms me up just to look at it, and I'm sitting in northwest Iowa in December!

And look at this, next project already on the easel.  No it's not a landscape, I don't do landscapes:)  Maybe another photo later today, we'll see how many ribs we have to get taped up on Brent!

daily paint on the project blog, December 12th, 2007

Hello and happy Wednesday to you!

Welcome to daily paint on the project blog.  You will not believe what I did.  After promising to do a better, more thorough job of taking sequential pictures as the painting develops, well, as they say a picture is worth a thousand words:

oops!  Like yeah, what happened to all those stages?  Better luck tomorrow!

project, December 11th, 2007, daily paint

Hello and happy Tuesday!

It is a good day, I am finally painting.  Where have I been the last few days??---I give up---where???  A true multitude of events involved me, I guess.

But the canvas is stretched, the gesso is on, and I HAVE APPLIED COLOR!  Not much but enough to make me feel better:)  I vaguely remember several posts ago feeling chagrined that I had only two photos of the entire process of the painting.  We are trying to improve that skill:) and so follows an image of the color blocking that is the starting place for "beach".  Hopefully the title will transform also, huh?

blame it on the weather man, December 7th, 2007, project delayed

Hello,
I am sorry to report that the project I have been telling you about did not get started today, and I'm blaming it on the weather man.  Well, what would you do with a forecast of anywhere from 1 to 9 inches of snow?  I decided that it was a prime excuse to play, and so I painted a park.  It's needing a bit more time on her jacket and face, so why don't we call this a 'short term' project?  I know, I know, you are saying why not just finish it right now?  Because.  I need to go make Christmas cookies:)  Thank you, you are so understanding!

today on the project blog

'A.R.T. The Artisans Roadtrip Revisited'

Hello,
On the surface, you might think I wasted an entire day---I only picked up a paint brush to move it out of the way!  But in fact, I spent the day with two good friends from Nebraska, supposedly to get our shopping done, but mostly we had lunch and drank lots of coffee:)  Friends are much more important than work.

However, a project of sorts:  Arts On Grand in Spencer, Iowa will be showing 'A.R.T. The Artisans Roadtrip Revisited'  Two recent pieces from my reader's series are to be included in that showing.

earliest ever recorded case of spring fever strikes Spencer Iowa artist

Hello!

Yup, it's true, I apparently am coming down with spring fever.  I was meandering through old sketch books searching for the next painting project.  I soon realized that everything catching my attention was related to (1) the garden, or (2) the beach.  What does this mean?  Very likely, the next painting showing up on the project blog will be pure fantasy:)  In the meantime, all you folks with ice or snow on your front step, gaze at the attached photo and just say aaaaaaaaaaaaaah.

Later, Cooper

ps.  sorry, the folks in the photo are Iowans, but Iowa is not where they're standing! :)  Sigh, it's Newport Beach.

daily paint, 'Vogue'

Hello!

The moon is shining brightly on the ice in Spencer, Iowa tonight!  Aargh.

But I have a painting to show you.  I think the mannequins are done?  At any rate it's signed:)  For being a project blog, I sure didn't give you many stages to look at with this one, did I?   http://www.karencooperpaintings.com/blog/2004
Yet another skill that needs worked on---sigh.  FYI, this whole thing started with just one mannequin, the second one from the right, and my imagination just went a little loopy from there.  But it makes me smile when I look at it, so happy day!
