flying in the studio

Howdy,

Nope, the flying is not literal, it's figurative!  And with what I painted today, there might even be a pun in there somewhere, sorry!  The truth of the matter is, I got my BIG brush moving today, and that's always fun!  That's why time flies, right?!

I suppose I need to admit that the failure with the first attempt at 'Shopped' is what gave me the 'oh well' attitude and caused me to grab the big brush.  Knowing there was something terribly off kilter with the first 'Shopped' figure, I got out my favorite figure painting book and reviewed.  We all know when the left shoulder tips down that the left hip tips up, so why was I trying to paint it otherwise?  These things cause us to wonder, eh?  I liked the image and story it suggests, so I wasn't in a quitting mood.  The second canvas hopped up on the easel, the big brush dug in, and I like where I got to with it today.

I am working on a 30 x 20 inch gallery wrapped canvas this time.  First attempt was on a 20 x 16 inch paper.  I think the extra maneuvering room is also helping.

On my journal blog I wrote about the 'Great River Energy Bicycle Races' that I saw in Minneapolis two weekends ago.  I knew there could be some fun paintings come from the experience.  I truely thought the first one would be of the cyclists, but today proved me wrong.  People watching is one of my favorite sports :) and these bicycle race spectators are just a few of the crowd that have been begging for a place on a canvas.  It's just blocked in, but already  I'm loving it.

I am working on a 40 x 40 canvas here, and am pleased that I have been able to find the big shapes right from the start.  I daresay that always bodes well for a painting! :)

Later, Cooper
